Santa Cruz Composite is a high school cross country mountain bike racing team formed in 2010. The goals of this team are to develop those already riding mountain bikes into racers or better racers, allow those who have not ridden mountain bikes to explore this avenue of athletic activity, grow the NorCal League teams at our local high schools, and end up with life-long cyclists.
Once we get to December it is time for official team practices to begin and they are usually three days per week with one additional day to ride with family, friends, or on your own. For those racers ready to compete at a higher level, we do provide optional additional training opportunities that must be coordinated with the coaches.
All coaches and ride leaders are required to have criminal background checks, and coaches also gain their 16-hour Wilderness First Aid certification, gain a CPR certification, and take coaching and continuing education courses provided through the NICA high school mountain biking leagues.
To provide this wonderful opportunity for our racers, the team relies on sponsors and donor contributions in addition to racer family contributions to finance the expense of race entry fees, coach certifications and training, travel, uniforms, food, equipment, and other team expenses. All donations are 100% tax deductible through our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Project Bike Trip.
